WHAT IS HATHA?
Hatha is the “mother” of all asana-based yoga practices. Before Vinyasa — where we flow from one pose to another — Hatha invites us to pause and learn both how to do and how to be in each posture.
It teaches us how to align our joints, which muscles to engage, and which ones to soften. It guides us to breathe with awareness, observe our emotions, notice our behavioral patterns, and, above all, find comfort and steadiness in the pose.
Hatha is the art of knowing what we are doing, how we are doing it, and how to refine our practice.
It is a sacred path toward self-discovery — an honest look at our strengths and weaknesses, and a reminder of our values and inner truth.
With over 20 years of study, practice, and teaching, Daniela believes the highest benefit of yoga goes far beyond the mat — it’s how we live our lives, the way we relate to ourselves, and the presence we bring to the world.
A Yoga Alliance Certified Continuing Education Provider (YACEP), Daniela has collaborated on 200-hour Teacher Trainings with Jhon Tamayo (Atmananda Yoga School) and with Hanu Yoga Studio. She now offers specialized continuing education in Pranayama, Hatha Yoga, Functional Alignment, and Intelligent Sequencing at Hanu. Her teachings often include yoga adapted for lumbar herniated discs and other injuries, with a strong emphasis on proper alignment and therapeutic application.
Daniela’s deep connection to yoga was forged through profound personal challenges. She survived two major car accidents, years apart, and endured the passing of her beloved husband. These events left her with 131 bone fractures, hip displacement, vertebral herniated discs, shoulder injuries, and lasting physical limitations.
Through these hardships, yoga became her anchor — a vital tool for mental, emotional, and physical recovery.
“Yoga was fundamental for my psychophysical healing after the accidents. What you learn on the mat not only improves your body, it shapes your character and transforms your life.”
In 2016, Daniela dedicated herself fully to helping others improve their bodies, deepen their self-understanding, and strengthen their relationship with themselves through the practice and philosophy of yoga.

Dogmatic alignment prescribes a single “correct” way to make a shape in your body, labeling anything else as wrong. Most of these instructions are not rooted in anatomy or biomechanics (how the body actually works). Instead, they’re often based on aesthetics or outdated, passed-down rules that haven’t evolved in decades.
Functional alignment, on the other hand, is grounded in anatomy and biomechanics. It goes beyond simple joint positioning to include isometric muscle engagement and acknowledges that every body is unique — meaning cues must adapt to the individual. It also considers timing: knowing what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Functional alignment is flexible, intentional, and never absolute.
In functional alignment, there are many valid ways to approach a posture — the key is intent. That intent shapes every choice:
